UHMWPE Webbing Sling – Dyneema Lifting Sling Manufacturer
Jiangsu Xingsheng Lifting Equipment Co., Ltd. manufactures UHMWPE webbing slings, Dyneema lifting slings, UHMWPE flat slings and HMPE webbing straps for demanding industrial lifting. Our UHMWPE webbing sling delivers twice the strength of high-strength polyester while weighing only 0.7 times as much, and it resists abrasion and cutting far better than any polyester webbing. For riggers who have to lift heavy loads in tight, abrasive or wet conditions, that combination of strength, low weight and cut resistance changes what is possible on site.
What Is a UHMWPE Webbing Sling?
A UHMWPE webbing sling is a flat, flexible lifting sling woven from ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) yarn – the fibre family widely known by the brand name Dyneema. Because UHMWPE fibre is exceptionally strong for its weight, a UHMWPE webbing sling can carry the same working load limit (WLL) as a much heavier polyester sling, or a far higher WLL at the same width and thickness.
The sling is produced as a continuous woven flat belt with reinforced, load-bearing eyes at both ends. Every sling carries a sewn-on identification label showing the WLL, length, material and safety factor, together with a traceable batch number. Eye-eye, endless and one-way constructions are all available, and protective sleeves can be added where the sling runs over sharp edges.
As a flat webbing sling, it spreads load over a wide contact area and will not bruise, scratch or distort the load – unlike a wire rope sling or a chain sling of comparable capacity.
2× the Strength of High-Strength Polyester
The core advantage of the UHMWPE webbing sling is its strength-to-weight ratio. On a like-for-like tensile basis, UHMWPE webbing is approximately twice as strong as high-strength polyester webbing of the same linear density. It also holds that strength with very low elongation under load, so loads lift with less stretch and less bounce and stay under far more precise control.
In practical terms a 2× strength advantage gives you two options: carry double the load with a sling of the same width, or carry the same load in a much narrower, thinner and lighter sling. Both are valuable on a real lifting job.
| Property | UHMWPE webbing sling | High-strength polyester webbing sling |
|---|---|---|
| Tensile strength (index, same linear density) | 200 | 100 |
| Sling weight at equal WLL (index) | 70 | 100 |
| Abrasion resistance | Excellent | Good |
| Cut resistance | Excellent | Fair |
| Elongation under load | Very low | Moderate |
| Water absorption | None – the sling floats | Absorbs water |
| Strength when wet | Fully retained | Reduced |
| Rot, mildew and UV resistance | Resistant | Resistant |
| Maximum service temperature | Lower than polyester | Higher than UHMWPE |
0.7× the Weight of Polyester – About 30% Lighter at the Same Capacity
Weight is not a cosmetic detail on a rigging site. Because a UHMWPE webbing sling weighs only about 0.7 times an equivalent polyester sling, a rigger handles roughly 30% less mass for exactly the same lift. In practice that means:
Faster rigging and de-rigging, with noticeably less operator fatigue across a shift
Easier handling in confined spaces, on scaffolding and at height, where a heavy sling is hardest to manage
Lower manual-handling injury risk for your lifting team
Lower freight cost when slings are shipped together with the load, and lower air-freight cost on urgent orders
Better protection of the load: a lighter sling swings less and is easier to steady at the point of landing
Where a 100 t polyester sling needs a crane or a second person to position, a UHMWPE webbing sling of the same rating can often be carried and placed by one rigger.
Superior Abrasion and Cut Resistance
On real jobs, slings are removed from service far more often because of abrasion and edge damage than because of pure overload. UHMWPE fibre is among the most abrasion-resistant and cut-resistant synthetic fibres available – the same property family that makes it the fibre of choice in cut-resistant gloves and protective textiles. In a UHMWPE webbing sling this delivers:
Much longer service life when lifting steel plate, coil, machined castings, concrete elements, glass and other sharp-edged loads
Better performance in abrasive conditions – sand, grit, rubble, and rough ground where a polyester sling scuffs quickly
Greater tolerance of repeated choker and basket hitches around rough or square edges
Fewer premature removals from service, and therefore a lower total cost per lift

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a UHMWPE webbing sling and a polyester webbing sling?
UHMWPE (Dyneema) webbing is about twice as strong as high-strength polyester webbing and around 30% lighter at the same working load limit, and it resists abrasion and cutting far better. Polyester remains the better choice where the sling must contact hot surfaces, or where the lowest cost per sling is the priority.
How much stronger is a UHMWPE webbing sling than polyester?
Approximately 2 times on a like-for-like tensile basis. A UHMWPE webbing sling can therefore lift about twice the load of a polyester sling of the same width, or carry the same load in a much narrower and lighter sling.
Is a UHMWPE webbing sling really 30% lighter?
Yes. At an equal working load limit a UHMWPE webbing sling weighs about 0.7 times an equivalent polyester sling – roughly 30% lighter – which reduces operator fatigue and rigging time.
Does a UHMWPE webbing sling float?
Yes. UHMWPE fibre does not absorb water and is lighter than water, so the sling floats and keeps its full strength when wet. That makes it a good match for marine, dockside and subsea lifting.
Can a UHMWPE webbing sling be used at high temperature?
UHMWPE has a lower melting point than polyester and must not be used in contact with hot surfaces. Tell us your working temperature and we will confirm the correct sling material and any protective sleeve.
What safety factor do you use?
Our UHMWPE webbing slings are produced with a 7:1 safety factor against the minimum breaking load, in line with EN 1492-1, unless a different factor is specified.
Can the working load limit, length and colour be customised?
Yes. WLL, length, width, eye type, protective sleeves, colour and printed markings can all be customised. Send us your requirements for a quotation.
Request a UHMWPE Webbing Sling Quotation
Send us the working load limit, sling length, hitch type and working environment and we will come back with a specification and price. Samples and custom markings are available.
